The Conjuring Movie Review

The Conjuring

Synopsis: Based on true events, paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

Official Trailer

When the movie starts we find the Warren family teaching a college course on the paranormal, and their family business of paranormal researching. Ed Warren is an educated paranormal researcher and his wife, Lorraine, is a clairvoyant (someone with the ability to exercise an extra-sensory perception).

We get introduced to the Perron family, which consists of Roger, Carolyn, and their 5 young daughters, moving into a recently purchased ranch home near a lake. It's not long before the children and Carolyn begin seeing and experiencing unexplainable events. That's when they contact the Warrens and all hell breaks loose. No spoilers here, you'll have to see it to get the rest of the story.

The director, James Wan, is a master of Suspense and Horror. He uses a lot of moving camera shots and spectacular angles, all of which combined with screeching sounds create a sense of suspense not felt in recent horror movies. The film was cast perfectly with Vera Farmiga (Lorraine Warren) pulling out a fantastic performance.

The film, costing only $20 million to make, is a great example of budget film making. To put this in perspective; the recent Hollywood flop "R.I.P.D." starring Ryan Reynolds cost a staggering $130 million to make, tens of millions more to promote and only made $12.8 million it's opening weekend. It's opening weekend the Conjuring made $41.5 million, making double what it costs to produce. This is a testament to director James Wan and the producers, looking back Saw and a few others movies followed suit with "shoe string" budgets and huge net profits.

Since this is the first movie review I've done I'm going to introduce the Gif picture rating system, using three distinct Gifs I will let you, the audience, know what I thought about it. From Legendary meaning See It Now, to Almost Legendary meaning Get It On Redbox, and Not-So-Legendary meaning skip it.

Drum roll please...
The Conjuring gets a Legendary nod from me.

Legendary - See It Now
Go see it now, but be warned it will be the best Horror film you'll see this year, bring an extra pair of underwear. You will need them.
