High Definition Just Got Higher

All stoner puns aside today we're taking a look at the future of High Definition commercial, music video, and movie productions.

There are currently 4 different types of typical industry standard hi def video resolution: 720p (1280 x 720 pixels), 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels), 2k (2048 x 1080 pixels*), and 4k (4096 x 2160 pixels**).

Welcome to the world of 4k video. There are plenty of companies that offer 4k resolution video products including RED, Sony, Blackmagic, and JVC. Today we are taking a look at one of the newcomers in 4k, Canon International.

Canon has been a recent leader in High Definition pro-consumer production in the music video and indie film making industries with ground breaking High Definition video products such as the 7D, 5D mark 3, and 1D cameras. All of these cameras provide Full resolution 1080p High Definition video and are used by some of the best local producers and directors in Northern California.

The highly anticipated Canon Cinema EOS C500 was released in the first quarter of 2012. The C500 offers variable frame rates (60/30/24) as well as multiple resolutions (2k, 4k) in different color grades. The compact design and compatibility with Cannon EF & EF-S lenses makes it a viable option for many film makers all over the world. The C500 was recently used for the filming of the High Budget Blockbuster "After Earth" starring Will and Jaden Smith. The sky diving scene in this trailer was shot exclusively with the C500.

Canon is an industry leader in pro-consumer and professional video recording. The latest professional Cinema EOS C500 is no different and expect to see many more indie films, and major motion pictures using the C500.

And because we love beautiful women painted silver sprinkled in glitter. This is photographer Billy Rood's C500 slow motion test shoot.
