Apple's iOS 7 For Devices Unveiled
As many tech enthusiast anticipated yesterday, Apple announced their advanced new operating system, iOS 7. Said to be “the most significant iOS update since the original iPhone,” Tim Cook unveiled the new iOS to a packed crowd at the Moscone Center in San Francisco for WWDC. Bursting with new capabilities, we’ll start with updated typography with thinner lettering making for a much sleeker appeal. They’ve also added new animation and transparency for images alongside flatter icons, showcasing the new redesign from first view.
Once you venture into those icons, they are much more interactive - most notably the calendar, messaging and weather. Messaging conversations are simplified with a flatter layout and the ability to trash items with a slide. Folders are updated allowing for apps on multiple pages while extensive advancements in all things “Siri” were noted. Always a point of emphasis, the photos app got an overhaul as well. You can do a quick swipe to switch between cameras: photo, to video, square, camera, to pan, wherever you choose. The new photo app features filters so you can add them real-time.
iOS 7 will also have a presence in your car. Honda, Mercedes, Nissan and Ferrari have signed on to utilize Siri to access iTunes Radio, Maps and others features via the display in your vehicle. You can also have messages read to you and dictate back for continued conversation. There is also the new feature, AirDrop. It allows you to share content with your peers nearby. All you need to do is pick the person you want to share with and AirDrop sends over encrypted content, no setup or network is required.
The all-new iOS 7 will be available as a free software update for iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPod touch (fifth generation) this fall.
